Kind of Blue

by Dom Deshawn

about

Jazz and Hip-Hop are two genres that have shaped and influenced almost every modern genre of music. Pillars of black music are deeply rooted in pain, happiness, rebelliousness, and much more. "Kind of Blue" embodies all those things, beautifully captured by Columbus, OH-based artist Dom Deshawn.

"I always come from a very authentic place in my music, not shying away from addressing situations in my life. I won't get into some hidden meanings and stories but know there are many layers to the lyrics and things to dissect. In terms of how I structured the song, I always went about it how a lot of Jazz songs would use scatting to build lyrics and sounds, which you'll hear on the bridge. Despite how some of the darker lyrics may sound, this song felt very freeing and easygoing to make."

lyrics

Hook:

Tuh, you said you wanted jazz, right?
Y'all said wanted something jazzy, right?
Tuh, y'all said you wanted jazz, right?
Play this in your whip, real shit better off at night
You you wanted something jazzy, right? Alright!
You really wanted jazzy, right?
Ok, you said you wanted jazz, right?

Verse 1:

Things happen for a reason, one day I’m gonna spend foreign currency Like I partake in treason
Tale of Two Seasons, most recent project
Turn on the first song I guarantee you cheesing
I’m down bad, was thinking bout a record deal
Anybody that signing me it’s gonna be steal
Share my story at the perfect time I ain’t trying to schill
In my dudes whip, 06 playing Gansta Grillz
Built AfterhOurz all alone to sign away?.
Want my masters so my family flourish when I pass away

Hook:

Tuh, you said you wanted jazz, right?
Y'all said wanted something jazzy, right?
Tuh, y'all wanted something jazz, right?
Play this in your whip, real shit better off at night
You you wanted something jazzy, right? Alright!
You really wanted jazzy, right?
Play this in your whip, real shit better off at night

Bridge:
Any everybody, uh uh we go REPEATS*

Verse 2:
Memories, all we have is memories
Drink another shot to drown all the misery
It's killin me, oh yea full that glass up to the top
Bartender keep pouring until I'm telling you stop
The plot thickens every Time I got you fuckin smitten
Word to Nasir I swear all of this written
Destiny you and me, cause it's plain to see
So rare compared to these girls and what they claim to be
That's why I never question when you come back up in my life
Something magnetic thats bringing us together
4 page letters cause right now you far away
Hopefully you take the time out to hear what I say
